NDIS Counselling Services: What You Need to Know

NDIS participants often experience a range of emotional, psychological, and social challenges that can significantly impact their daily functioning and overall quality of life. Mental health support is a vital component of care planning for individuals living with a disability, yet it is sometimes underutilised due to a lack of awareness or service availability.

Through the Woods Counselling is a registered NDIS provider, delivering therapeutic services under the Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living category. Our qualified counsellors provide structured, evidence-informed support to participants of all ages and backgrounds, working closely with support coordinators to ensure that services align with plan goals and funding requirements.

Our counselling services are person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive. We specialise in supporting individuals with psychosocial disabilities, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and those with complex emotional needs. Services are available face-to-face at our Cowandilla location, via telehealth, or in-home where required. We offer flexible session durations and frequency, tailored to the participant’s goals and communication needs.

We also work with support coordinators to ensure that services meet the documentation requirements for NDIS funding. We provide service agreements, therapy plans, and progress reports. This ensures participants are receiving value for their funding and that their goals are being supported effectively.

Case Example: Sarah, a 29-year-old participant with PTSD and generalised anxiety, accessed weekly counselling under her NDIS plan. Over the course of 12 sessions, she gained greater emotional regulation, began socialising more frequently, and developed a clear plan for part-time employment. Her support coordinator noted a measurable improvement in her wellbeing.

Our counsellors utilise a blend of approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and creative modalities depending on client preference. We meet clients where they are, offering support that builds trust, skills, and self-esteem.

Referrals are accepted from support coordinators, plan nominees, or participants directly. Our intake process is simple, and we offer a free discovery call to ensure suitability. We also provide guidance for integrating our services into NDIS plans and support letters for plan reviews when needed.
